About Mickey

1236147_615863971777350_399557550_nBorn and raised in Astoria, Queens, Mickey Z. is probably the only person on the planet to have appeared in both a political book with Noam Chomsky and a karate flick with Billy Blanks.

Armed only with a high school diploma, Mickey is the author of 13 books and has spoken and lectured in venues ranging from MIT to ABC No Rio, from Yale University to Occupy Free University.

Howard Zinn called him “provocative and bold,” New York Newsday says he is a “professional iconoclast,” and publisher Sander Hicks asked: “How can someone be so sweet and yet so fierce?”

Novelist Ned Vizzini wrote: “It’s easy to talk about punk rock writing, but Mickey Z. really does write as if he doesn’t give a fuck but knows what must be said.”

And journalist Rosemarie Jackowski sums up: “Mickey’s gentle concern for his fellow earthlings and his behind-the-scenes acts of kindness are surpassed only by the cuteness of his dimples.”

  3. Thanks for bringing this horrible massacre back into the spotlight. At the time it was hailed as a great US victory. Even back then those who cared to look closely heard it described as “shooting fish in a barrel,” a war crime. A fellow vegan.

  4. Discord or calm

Are we in the land of discord or calm?
What are the creatures behind my palm?
what are the eyes in the wall?
Tell me the reason for the fall.
What is the congregation of voices saying?
What foundation are the hands laying?
What is the opposite of woeful pride?
What is on the other side?

  5. Is this the Mickey Z. who received a NYFA fellowship in nonfiction in 1997? If so Hello! This year NYFA’s fellowship program turns 30 and as part of that milestone we want to invite all former fellows to attend various events. We don’t have an email address for you on file and perhaps this is you. I can be reached at Mscholl@nyfa.org.

and if not I’m sorry to have bothered you…

    Best,
    Madeline

  6. HI Mickey! I have known you since the zine days of the early 90’s read you since you started at MRR. I had an idea for a Trump Vs. Bernie fan pillow fight, to raise money for some good cause. For the record I know that my Bernie support is out of concern for my daughter, I want her to have access to civilization, you hospitals and such. The Democratic Socialism he represents may be a political revolution, but not a Markist one. It is about preserving capitalism and making it less cruel to the people rowing the boat, not abandoning ship and having a new boat where we are all captains and all rowers. Anyhow a pillow fight could give us all a little fun time to blow off steam and acknowledge that we all have opinions and we all matter. What do you think? Art B.
